Florio dynasty roots explored in new historical novel

The historical novel ‘I Florio di Calabria’, written by Fulvio Cama and Maria Cavallo, was nationally premiered in Reggio Calabria. Published by Città del Sole Edizioni, the book explores the Calabrian roots of the famous Florio dynasty before their rise to prominence in Palermo.

The narrative begins in the mid-1600s in the ‘terra del leone’ region, encompassing Bagnara Calabra, Seminara, and Piani della Corona. Spanning two centuries, the story depicts a period marked by foreign dominations, religious tensions, poverty, and rebellion.

Authors Maria Cavallo and Fulvio Cama stated that the project aims to recover a marginalized historical memory and highlight the skills and opportunities that originated in Calabria. The book's development was also influenced by Cama’s experience on the set of the series ‘I Leoni di Sicilia’.
