Flower begins construction of large battery storage in Hamburg

The Swedish energy technology company Flower has officially begun construction of a large-scale battery storage facility in Hamburg-Allermöhe, Germany. The project is expected to be operational by the end of 2028.

The storage unit will have a capacity of 100 megawatts. According to the municipal power grid operator, Hamburger Stromnetze, this will be the largest battery storage of its kind in a major German city. Flower, which is headquartered in Stockholm, will operate the facility upon its completion.

Hamburg Energy Senator Katharina Fegebank stated that the project serves as a signal to the economy regarding the city's commitment to forward-looking energy policy. While this is a significant installation for Hamburg, it is smaller than a 1,000-megawatt project currently under construction in Klostermansfeld, Saxony-Anhalt.
