Fluoride safety and its role in preventing dental decay
Scientific evidence supports the use of fluoride compounds to prevent tooth decay, despite misinformation circulating on social media and alternative medicine websites. While excessive intake of fluoride can be toxic and lead to conditions such as fluorosis, the risk of overdose is considered low in Poland. Conversely, a deficiency in fluoride can lead to health issues, including impaired calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus binding in bones.
In Poland, dental decay remains a widespread issue, affecting approximately 90 percent of 12-year-olds. Fluoride is essential for the proper formation of teeth and bones, and its presence in water, soil, and minerals is a natural part of the environment.
