Correios to receive R$ 6 billion injection in 2027 budget
The Brazilian federal government has announced a R$ 6 billion capital injection for Correios, to be included in the 2027 Annual Budget Law (PLOA). This measure is part of a restructuring plan and follows a financing agreement made in late 2025, where the Union committed to providing funds to support the state-owned company's rebalancing. The injection is intended to help Correios recover its operational capacity and market competitiveness.
This budgetary allocation is made possible by fiscal adjustment measures. Planning Minister Bruno Moretti stated that the government is using spending triggers and expense reviews to create room for discretionary spending. These fiscal measures are estimated to save approximately R$ 80 billion in mandatory expenses for 2027, with total savings from recent actions potentially reaching R$ 100 billion.
Financial reports for Correios indicate a challenging period, with a net loss of R$ 2.4 billion in the second quarter of 2026 and an accumulated loss of R$ 5.5 billion for the first half of the year. Additionally, the company is in the advanced stages of structuring a new R$ 7 billion loan, with the Union acting as a guarantor.
