Sarajevo Airport hits passenger records as DiscoverEU expansion nears

Sarajevo International Airport has reported record-breaking passenger traffic in 2026. During the first nine months of the year, the airport served 1,783,597 passengers, surpassing previous year results. September was particularly notable, seeing 231,725 passengers, the highest number recorded for that month since the airport's establishment. Acting Director Dino Selimović attributed this growth to the expansion of flight networks and the arrival of new airlines, including Wizz Air and easyJet.

In separate news, the European Commission announced that Bosnia and Herzegovina will join the DiscoverEU program in 2027. This Erasmus+ initiative provides 18-year-olds with travel passes to explore Europe, primarily via rail. While not eligible for the current 2026 cycle, young citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina will be able to apply for these travel opportunities starting in 2027.

Additionally, discussions have emerged regarding the potential revival of the airline FlyBosnia. Local tourism officials have indicated interest from the tourism and hotel sectors in restarting operations for the carrier, though specific details regarding investors or flight schedules remain unconfirmed.
