Fondation Louis Vuitton announces Gustave Fayet exhibition and publications
The Fondation Louis Vuitton is hosting a major exhibition dedicated to Gustave Fayet, a significant collector and creator, running until March 8, 2027. The exhibition is accompanied by two books, ‘Gustave Fayet. Collectionneur’ and ‘Gustave Fayet. Créateur’, co-published by Gallimard and the Fondation Louis Vuitton.
Fayet, born into a wealthy viticulture family in Béziers, became a prominent figure in the art world after inheriting a fortune in 1899. He was an early collector of modern masters, acquiring works by Van Gogh and Gauguin long before their widespread fame. His collection included nearly a thousand modern artworks, featuring pieces by Renoir, Degas, Monet, Matisse, and others. Fayet played a role in the recognition of Gauguin’s work by lending seventy pieces to the 1906 Salon d’Automne retrospective.
