Fondazione Casa dello Spirito e delle Arti expands prison host production

The “Il senso del Pane” project, launched in 2016 by the Fondazione Casa dello Spirito e delle Arti, produces Eucharistic hosts through workshops located in prisons, family homes, and communities for vulnerable individuals. The initiative aims to provide dignity and redemption to those in difficult circumstances through manual labor.

Currently, 35 centers are active, with plans to expand to 40 by 2027, which is expected to provide employment for at least 300 people. The project began a decade ago at the Opera prison in Milan, where inmates convicted of serious crimes used the work as a means of personal transformation.

The initiative has received support from religious leaders, including Pope Francis, and has grown through the involvement of various philanthropic organizations, such as the Ennio Doris Foundation, the Santo Versace Foundation, the Carlo Acutis Foundation, and the Pedrollo Foundation.
