Food Bank of Spain organizes major nationwide food collection drive

The Spanish Food Bank (Banco de Alimentos) is organizing its annual Gran Recapte (Great Collection) on November 13 and 14. This 18th edition of the campaign aims to collect food to support vulnerable populations across the country through a network of 569 social entities.

In the Anoia region, organizers are seeking approximately 500 volunteers to staff 30 collection points. The initiative highlights the growing phenomenon of “new poverty,” where individuals with steady incomes struggle to meet basic needs after paying for housing. In Anoia, six local entities serve roughly 1,100 beneficiaries.

In the Val Miñor area of Pontevedra, the campaign will operate across eight supermarkets in Baiona, Nigrán, and Gondomar. The provincial effort expects to mobilize 2,700 volunteers across 150 establishments. While specific retailers like Froiz, Vegalsa-Eroski, and Gadis will host food collections, others such as Mercadona, Carrefour, DIA, and Lidl will accept monetary donations.
