Spanish Food Bank annual collection campaigns

Overview

The Spanish Food Bank is organizing its annual food collection initiatives, known as the Gran Recogida or Gran Recapte, to support vulnerable populations.

In La Rioja, the XIV Gran Recogida is scheduled for November 13, 14, and 15. Supported by national football coach Luis de la Fuente, the campaign involves 66 establishments. While some locations accept only food, many also accept monetary donations to purchase supplies. The regional effort currently faces a shortage of 466 volunteers needed to staff collection points.

Nationwide, the 18th edition of the campaign will take place on November 13 and 14, utilizing a network of 569 social entities. Organizers have noted a rise in “new poverty,” where individuals with steady incomes struggle to afford basic needs after housing costs. Regional efforts include the Anoia region, which seeks 500 volunteers for 30 collection points, and the Val Miñor area in Pontevedra, where 2,700 volunteers are expected to support 150 establishments.
