Food Poisoning Affects Over 700 at SMKN 6 Semarang, Authorities Launch Investigation

On 31 July 2026, more than 700 individuals – 693 students and 14 teachers at SMKN 6 Semarang – reported symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and abdominal pain after eating a meal provided under the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program. The Semarang City Health Department, led by Mochamad Abdul Hakam, activated a rapid‑response team, treated 698 people on‑site and referred nine to local health facilities for further observation.

Health officials collected food samples, leftovers and victim specimens for laboratory analysis and are conducting an epidemiological investigation to determine the cause. Coordination involves the school, the catering provider, the National Nutrition Agency and other relevant agencies. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have asked the public to await the lab results before drawing conclusions.
