Food recalls issued in France and Canada over bacterial contamination

Two separate food recalls have been issued in France and Canada due to bacterial contamination risks.

In France, Prix Mini brand smoked bacon bits (200g, lot 7652370, expiry 03/11/2026) are being recalled from Cooperative U stores. The recall is due to biological non-compliance involving the potential presence of Staphylococcus aureus. Consumption of contaminated products can lead to gastrointestinal issues, primarily vomiting. Consumers are advised not to eat the product and to return it to the point of sale.

In Canada, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued an urgent recall for Olymel brand chicken breast strips (two 175g packs) sold throughout Quebec. The recall follows company findings and CFIA analysis indicating potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. While no illnesses have been reported to date, Listeria can cause listeriosis, which poses significant risks to pregnant women, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals. Consumers should discard or return the affected products.
