Food safety authorities seize adulterated stocks in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh

Food safety authorities in India have conducted major crackdowns against food adulteration and unlicensed operations in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.

In Maharashtra, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) seized food stocks worth approximately ₹30.82 lakh during a special campaign ahead of the festive season. The seizure included over 10,836 kg/liters of items such as ghee, tea powder, oil, and sweets. At Gurukrupa Dairy Products in Malad East, officials found evidence of counterfeit ghee being produced by mixing refined sunflower oil, vegetable oil, and branded ghee in boilers. The FDA also suspended the licenses of five establishments in Mumbai due to hygiene violations, including the presence of pests and improper storage of non-vegetarian food.

In Indore, Madhya Pradesh, food safety officials seized approximately 10,500 liters of edible oil, valued at roughly ₹21 lakh, from a warehouse belonging to Shri Shyam & Shyam Oils Private Limited. The facility was found to be operating without the necessary food licenses. Additionally, eleven samples of various oils, including peanut and mustard oils, were collected from different locations for quality testing at the state food testing laboratory in Bhopal.
