Footballer Quevin Castro dies after collapsing on pitch

Portuguese footballer Quevin Castro has died at the age of 25 after collapsing during a preseason friendly match. The incident occurred at the Estádio das Seixas in Malveira during a game between Castro's club, Real Sport Clube, and Estrela da Amadora.

Castro was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, but medical professionals were unable to save him. Real Sport Clube released a statement describing him as “far more than a player” and a member of their family. The Lisbon Football Association also expressed deep condolences regarding the tragedy.

Castro had previously played in England, making his professional debut for West Bromwich Albion in a Carabao Cup match against Arsenal in 2021. During his time in the United Kingdom, he also had stints with Burton, Notts County, and Gateshead. West Bromwich Albion expressed they were “devastated” by the news and announced they would hold a tribute during their upcoming match against Burnley, featuring a minute of applause and black armbands.
