Death of footballer Quevin Castro

Overview

Portuguese footballer Quevin Castro, 25, died after collapsing during a pre-season friendly match at the Estádio das Seixas. The incident occurred approximately ten minutes into a game between his club, Real Sport Clube, and Estrela da Amadora.

Medical staff from both clubs provided emergency assistance on the pitch, including the use of a defibrillator. Despite being transported to a hospital, Castro could not be revived. Real Sport Clube described him as “far more than a player” and a member of their family, while the Lisbon Football Association expressed deep condolences.

Castro had a professional background in English football, having played for clubs including West Bromwich Albion, Notts County, Burton, Gateshead, and York City. West Bromwich Albion stated they were “devastated” by the news and announced they would honor his memory during an upcoming match against Burnley by wearing black armbands and observing a minute of applause in the 25th minute.
