Ford advances affordable $30,000 midsize electric pickup prototypes

Ford is preparing a four‑door midsize electric pickup priced around $30,000, slated for a 2027 launch on the company's new Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform. The vehicle will use megacasting to cut parts count, prismatic lithium‑iron‑phosphate batteries to lower cost and increase interior space, and aerodynamic design work sourced partly from Formula 1 engineers.

Prototype trucks have entered testing in Michigan; Ford says they are currently "out in the wild" but have not yet been driven on public roads. A Ford spokesperson confirmed street testing could begin in the next few weeks, and the company’s CFO noted the project is on schedule. The affordable pickup is positioned to compete with both electric SUVs and traditional gasoline trucks, aiming to boost Ford’s lagging EV sales in the United States.
