Ford Almussafes resumes production following Geely alliance
The Ford manufacturing plant in Almussafes, Valencia, has resumed vehicle production following the August summer break. The facility is currently focused on the Kuga model, with a production target of 750 units per day across two shifts.
Workers at the plant, totaling 4,142 employees, have returned to their roles following a period of temporary layoff (ERTE) for vehicle production staff. According to Carlos Faubel, president of the works council, the workforce has returned with increased certainty due to the strategic joint venture established in July with the Chinese automaker Geely.
While the plant produced nearly 100,000 units last year, annual production for the current year is projected to fall below 90,000 units due to various production stoppages. Additionally, negotiations regarding the 2030 Electrification Agreement resumed on September 1 to discuss labor and wage conditions.
Separately, the broader Basque industrial sector is also returning to work after the August hiatus, facing challenges such as energy transition, rising costs, and international competition.
