Ford Motor Company and China's Geely Holding formalised a 66 %–34 % joint venture on 24 July 2026, injecting €221 million and valuing the new entity at roughly €650 million. The arrangement will use the Almussafes plant’s design capacity of about 500,000 vehicles annually, which had fallen below 100,000 units the previous year, to produce a mixed line of multi‑energy models.

The partnership was publicly launched on 26 July 2026, with the venture slated to begin operations in the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory approval, and to deliver its first new vehicles from 2028. Ford will continue building the Kuga SUV, add a European‑market Bronco and a jointly developed compact crossover. Geely will introduce two electric SUVs (the E2 and E5). The plan aims to raise utilisation, lower costs and protect roughly 4,200 direct jobs at the plant while safeguarding about 23,000 jobs throughout the Valencian supply chain.

Geely will also avoid the EU’s 28.8 % import duty on Chinese‑built EVs by assembling locally. Spanish authorities have welcomed the deal as a stabilising force for the regional auto industry and a sign of Europe’s shift toward stricter emissions standards and heightened competition from Chinese EV manufacturers. Production of additional Ford multi‑energy models is scheduled through 2029.
