Automakers expand electric and hybrid vehicle presence in Brazil
The Brazilian automotive market is seeing increased competition from electric and hybrid vehicle manufacturers. Ford has announced the name of its upcoming electric pickup, the Fathom, which is expected to debut in 2027 with an estimated starting price of US$ 28,350. The Fathom will be the first model built on Ford's new Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform.
Chinese manufacturers are also expanding their presence. Omoda, part of Chery International, is offering a lineup of SUVs in Brazil, including the hybrid Omoda 5, the all-electric Omoda E5, and the plug-in hybrid Omoda 7.
Additionally, BYD has launched the Song Pro Flex in Brazil, its first hybrid SUV adapted for ethanol. Produced in Bahia, this model represents a R$ 150 million investment aimed at adapting technology to local fuels. BYD aims to reach 50% local component usage by 2027 and plans to expand its dealership network to 300 locations by the end of the year.
