Ford Spain plant looks to Chinese partnership as salvation

Union representative José Luis Parra said that China has shifted from being a threat to becoming a lifeline for Ford’s Almussafes plant in Valencia, Spain. The comment reflects growing optimism that Chinese involvement can help reverse the plant’s recent losses.

Geely Automobile Holdings and Ford Motor Company have announced a joint venture to produce new‑energy vehicles at Ford’s Valencia facility. The partnership will give Geely a “Made in Europe” badge, allowing it to avoid tariffs and benefit from EU supply‑chain links, while providing Ford with Geely’s advanced battery and electric‑vehicle technology to improve the profitability of its European operations.
