Ford unveils Fathom electric pickup, priced under $30,000 for 2027 launch
Ford Motor Company announced the Fathom, a midsize electric pickup that will be the first vehicle built on its new Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform. The truck is priced at a base $28,350; with a mandatory $1,595 destination fee the total starts at $29,945, keeping it just under the $30,000 psychological barrier. Production is slated for the Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky, with pre‑orders opening early 2027 and deliveries expected later that year.
The standard‑range battery is said to deliver up to 300 miles of range. Standard equipment includes a high‑resolution touchscreen, Apple Maps integration, bidirectional charging, a digital key and Ford’s BlueCruise hands‑free driver‑assist system. The Fathom also offers a front trunk (frunk), a traditional cargo bed and interior space claimed to exceed that of a Toyota RAV4, seating five adults. Ford CEO Jim Farley described the model as a “Model T moment” aimed at making electric vehicles affordable and competitive against both legacy and Chinese EV rivals.
