Ford orders recall of 4,700 Bronco Sport and Maverick vehicles over loss‑of‑control risk
Ford has issued an urgent recall covering 4,653 vehicles – 2021‑2026 Bronco Sport SUVs and 2022‑2026 Maverick pickups – after a manufacturing defect was found in the front lower control‑arm ball joint. The defect, which may have been incorrectly installed or repaired, can cause loss of steering control while driving, prompting a "Do Not Drive" alert, one of the strongest safety warnings an automaker can issue.
Owners are instructed to halt use of the affected vehicles and can verify inclusion via the NHTSA VIN lookup tool. Ford will provide free towing, mobile inspection, and cover all repair costs, including part replacement, to address the issue. The recall was filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on May 19 and applies to models sold in the United States.
