Ford to launch $30,000 electric pickup for 2027

Ford is developing a compact electric pickup priced around $30,000, aiming for a 2028 model year launch. The prototype has been seen in camouflage wraps that feature QR codes linking to a secret website with progress updates. Spy shots showed the truck alongside a full‑size Expedition, highlighting its smaller dimensions and lower ride height, more akin to a Maverick‑sized pickup than a traditional full‑size truck.

The vehicle will be built on Ford’s new Universal EV Platform, which uses fewer parts, megacasting, and LFP batteries to keep costs down. Production is planned for the Kentucky/Louisville assembly plant, with the first units expected in 2027. It will also be the company’s first EV equipped with a native NACS charging port, improving compatibility with public charging networks. Ford hopes the affordable price and practical size will broaden electric‑vehicle adoption among buyers who need cargo space without the premium cost of larger electric trucks.
