Ford pushes electric pickup as US automakers curb EV ambitions

Ford Motor Company revealed details of its upcoming electric pickup truck, the first model to be built on the new Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform. The unnamed vehicle is aimed at the rapidly expanding electric pickup segment and underscores Ford’s strategy to scale EV production and meet growing consumer demand for cleaner trucks.

Meanwhile, major U.S. automakers are scaling back electric‑vehicle programs. Ford delayed and later cancelled a three‑row electric SUV, and other manufacturers such as General Motors, Volvo, Dodge, Jeep, Honda and Nissan have postponed or scrapped similar projects. The pullback follows profitability concerns and policy changes that eliminated federal EV tax credits and weakened emissions rules under the Trump administration, resulting in job cuts and billions of dollars in losses for companies like Ford and Stellantis.
