Ford selects Apple Maps for native navigation in new Fathom EV

Ford has selected Apple Maps as the native navigation provider for its upcoming Fathom electric vehicle platform. Alan Clarke, Ford's Senior Vice President of Advanced Vehicle Projects, stated that the decision followed extensive evaluations of various providers, including Google.

The choice was driven by the need for deep integration to manage critical electric vehicle data. Ford aims to utilize Apple Maps for precise range estimation, battery pre-conditioning, and real-time charger availability, leveraging Apple's data on elevation profiles and weather conditions.

Ford clarified that Apple Maps will be integrated directly into the vehicle's native software rather than through a CarPlay Ultra implementation. However, the Fathom will still support standard CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing drivers to switch between Apple Maps, Google Maps, and Waze within those interfaces.
