Ford to build electric vehicle battery plant in Almussafes
Ford has announced plans to construct a new plant at its Almussafes facility in Valencia, Spain, dedicated to assembling batteries for 100% electric vehicles. The specific number of personnel required for this new operation will be determined during the second quarter of 2027.
In addition to the battery plant, the company is undertaking several facility improvements, including renovations to engine plant locker rooms, canteen upgrades, and extended climate control improvements through 2028.
The UGT union, which represents a majority of the workforce, noted that while improvements are being seen following the 2030 labor agreement, there are concerns regarding workload. The union has called for more production volume to address a projected surplus of 200 to 300 workers—including operators and maintenance technicians—expected in the coming months and through 2027 in the combustion engine assembly and machining areas.
