Ford to develop new compact SUV using Geely technology
Ford is preparing to launch a new compact C-segment SUV using technology from the Chinese manufacturer Geely. The vehicle is designed with multi-energy platforms, allowing for hybrid, internal combustion, or 100% electric powertrains to cater to varying consumer preferences through 2035.
Under the agreement, Ford will utilize Geely’s GEA platform and mechanical components to develop the new SUV with minimal capital investment. This strategy follows a previous collaboration with Volkswagen, where Ford utilized the MEB platform for European electric models like the Explorer and Capri.
Geely, which holds significant stakes in companies such as Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, and Polestar, also stands to benefit from the partnership, potentially helping to navigate European tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles.
