Ford and Geely partner to produce new SUVs in Spain
Ford and Geely are establishing a joint venture to produce low-emission vehicles at Ford’s factory in Valencia, Spain. Under the agreement, Geely will hold a 34% stake, while Ford will retain 66%.
A key component of this partnership involves Ford utilizing Geely’s Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture (GEA) platform to develop a new compact SUV for the European market. This model is expected to feature a rally-inspired design to maintain a distinct Ford identity despite sharing technical architecture with Geely models like the EX5. The new SUV is anticipated to offer multiple powertrain options, including fully electric and hybrid versions.
Production at the Valencia plant is scheduled to begin in 2028. The facility will produce the new Ford SUV alongside two Geely models, including the electric EX2. This strategic move aims to reduce development times and distribute production costs for Ford’s electrified lineup in Europe.
