Greece sees 34% surge in foreign investment amid rising property prices

Greece is experiencing a significant rise in foreign direct investment (FDI) and shifting economic trends. According to the EY Attractiveness Survey 2026 and European Investment Monitor (EIM) data, greenfield investments in Greece rose by 34% in 2025, reaching 47 projects compared to 35 in 2024. This growth occurs despite a broader decline in FDI across Europe. Investment is increasingly moving toward high-value sectors, including software and IT services (23%), logistics and transport (21%), and manufacturing.

In the real estate sector, a Deloitte report highlights a paradox: while apartment prices in Greece rose by 7.8% in nominal terms in 2025, construction activity has slowed. Price increases were noted across the country, with Thessaloniki seeing a 9.6% rise and other major cities rising by 9.8%, while Athens saw a more moderate 6.2% increase.

On the labor front, Greek Minister of Labor Niki Keramea highlighted a historic reduction in unemployment during the Trilateral Social Summit in Brussels. She addressed challenges such as skill mismatches and the impact of Artificial Intelligence on the workforce, emphasizing the need for lifelong learning and vocational retraining.
