Kozani forest fire draws extensive helicopter and ground crew deployment across Greece

On July 27 a forest fire erupted in the Agios Dimitrios area of Kozani, prompting the Greek Fire Service to mobilise 20 firefighters, five fire‑engine vehicles, a foot‑patrol unit of the 8th EMODE, volunteers and an aerial helicopter for water drops.

Similar incidents were reported over the same weekend: in the Monolithos area of the Oreokastro municipality (Thessaloniki) a fire on July 26 saw 37 firefighters, 11 vehicles and two helicopters deployed; in the Vasilika region of Fthiotida a blaze on July 26 engaged 43 firefighters, 12 vehicles, two aerial aircraft and a helicopter; and in the Kalidrimo area of the Amfikleia‑Elaia municipality (Fthiotida) 55 firefighters, 19 vehicles, six aircraft and one helicopter were tasked to contain the fire.

All fires burned in rugged forest terrain, threatened no settlements and caused no injuries or casualties. Authorities continue to monitor the situations and conduct aerial water drops to prevent further spread.
