Turkey forest fires trigger mass evacuations in Antalya and Muğla

Multiple forest fires are currently affecting several regions in Turkey, primarily in Antalya, Muğla, Adana, and Mersin. In Antalya, fires in the Aksu and Kepez districts have forced the evacuation of at least 254 homes. The blaze in Aksu's Karaöz neighborhood destroyed one house and threatened local infrastructure, including a gendarmerie station. In Serik, fires in the Sarıabalı neighborhood destroyed five houses and damaged agricultural greenhouses. A family of three disabled individuals was successfully rescued from their home during the Serik blaze.

In Adana's Kozan district, fires have reached residential areas, prompting the evacuation of 40 homes. In Muğla's Menteşe district, intense firefighting efforts are underway to contain flames spreading through pine forests. In Mersin's Bozyazı district, crews are also responding to a new fire in forested areas.

Emergency response efforts involve significant aerial and ground resources, including aircraft, helicopters, water tenders, and hundreds of personnel. Local authorities, including the Antalya Governor and various municipal leaders, are monitoring the situation. High winds have complicated containment efforts, causing fires to jump containment lines and spread toward new settlements. Emergency services have also deployed mobile base stations to address communication outages in affected areas.
