Greece fights several forest fires in Evia, Boeotia and Nafpaktia

On June 27, 2026 multiple forest fires erupted across western and central Greece. In the lower Mamoulada area of Nafpaktia (Aetolia‑Acarnania), a blaze ignited near the village and, aided by strong winds, threatened homes and the nearby Saint Polycarp church. Fifty firefighters, two EMS teams, fourteen vehicles, two fixed‑wing aircraft and a helicopter were deployed, with local water‑tankers and drone surveillance supporting the operation. The mayor and local clergy praised the rapid response that kept damage minimal.

In Boeotia, a fire broke out in the Petra district of Aliartos around 13:30, quickly reaching the edge of the settlement. Authorities issued a 112 evacuation order directing residents toward Livadeia. Firefighting forces comprised 45–46 firefighters, two EMS teams, thirteen vehicles, six aircraft and one helicopter, assisted by municipal water‑tankers. Strong winds of up to 7 Bft hampered water drops.

Evia’s Spathari region saw a separate blaze after 16:00. Although the fire did not endanger homes, 54 firefighters, a special mountain‑rescue unit, 21 vehicles, eight aircraft and three helicopters (one coordinated from the air) worked the line, backed by local water‑tankers and continuous drone monitoring.

A fifth incident occurred near Vlaherna in the Arta regional unit, where 25 firefighters, a mountain rescue team, six vehicles, five aircraft and two helicopters were mobilised. No residences were threatened.

All incidents are under investigation by regional arson investigation units, and aerial units faced difficulty due to high‑voltage power lines in some locations.
