Forest fires active in northern Spain near Cantabria and León
Multiple forest fires are currently being fought across northern Spain. In the area of Quintanas de Hormiguera, located on the border between Cantabria and Palencia, an active fire caused by an electrical line arc is being addressed. The operation involves personnel from the Government of Cantabria, the Junta de Castilla y León, and an amphibious aircraft from MITECO. Authorities noted the complexity of the terrain, which is dominated by oak forests and subject to windy conditions.
Separately, an intentional fire in Pendilla de Arbas (León) has spread into Asturias, where the most active part of the blaze is located. The fire, which began late Friday night, has reached a high potential gravity index. Over twenty aerial and ground resources are working to stabilize the fire in the steep, difficult terrain. Additionally, a fire in Arza (Burgos) is also being monitored, though it is showing favorable evolution.
