Aragon wildfires burn 120,000 hectares, force 1,100 evacuations

A massive forest fire in the Orés area of Aragon (province of Zaragoza) has spread across up to 120,000 hectares (about 120 sq km), prompting the evacuation of more than 1,100 residents from five villages, including Orés, Asín, Luesia, Malpica de Arba and Uncastillo. The blaze intensified under strong winds, high temperatures and low humidity.

Authorities have deployed roughly 400 ground firefighters, more than 30 aerial water‑dropping aircraft and units of the military emergency force (UME). Regional president Jorge Azcón and the Aragon government continue to coordinate containment lines and protect remaining settlements. Power outages have been reported in Asín and Orés, and several houses suffered damage.

The fire remains uncontrolled, with officials warning of a high risk of further spread as wind direction changes. The operation continues under the special civil protection plan for forest fires, with additional resources standing by.
