Forest Fires Sweep Catalonia and Alicante Regions During Sant Joan

On the night of the Sant Joan holiday, a series of vegetation fires erupted across the Catalonia province of Tarragona and the neighbouring Valencia region. In La Sénia, more than 20 fire‑fighter crews, two helicopters and two aerial bombardier helicopters were deployed, evacuating two rural houses as the blaze burned roughly 800‑1,000 m² before being stabilised. Similar outbreaks were reported in Tamarit, Constantí and several other municipalities, bringing the total to 83 vegetation fires recorded in the Camp de Tarragona and Terres de l'Ebre areas.

Separately, near Gata de Gorgos in Alicante province, a truck caught fire on the AP‑7 highway, creating a large plume of smoke. Emergency services quickly extinguished the blaze, preventing it from reaching nearby forested slopes and allowing traffic to resume after a short interruption. The swift response averted further damage to the surrounding woodland.

Overall, the coordinated actions of regional fire brigades, helicopter units and civil protection teams contained the incidents without major casualties, though the fires disrupted local communities and transport routes.
