Formentera: Body of adolescent found at sea

The Guardia Civil has recovered the body of an adolescent approximately six miles south of Formentera. The body was found in an advanced state of decomposition and was wearing a red life jacket, leading authorities to believe the individual may have been a migrant attempting a maritime crossing to the Balearic Islands.

The discovery follows the recent recovery of a woman's body on the coast of Migjorn, Formentera. These incidents occur during a weekend marked by several arrivals of migrant vessels in the region. In a separate event, 11 migrants were located in a boat three miles south of the island, and 29 others were intercepted after arriving at the Estufador area.

Authorities have transferred the remains to the Forensic Anatomical Institute in Ibiza for autopsies to determine the identities and exact circumstances of death. This brings the total number of bodies believed to be linked to migrants found on the coast of Formentera this year to eleven. Additionally, 30 unidentified migrants who died attempting to reach the coast are currently interred at the Sant Francesc cemetery.
