Former Armenian Prime Minister warns of possible snap elections amid parliamentary mandate dispute

Former prime minister and ex‑speaker Khosrov Harutyunyan cautioned that the National Assembly, which secured 64 seats in the June 7 parliamentary election, may face a constitutional impasse if opposition members are denied the tools needed to influence legislation. He argued that the lack of mandates could trigger public protests and potentially force an early (extra‑ordinary) election, noting that a 64‑member parliament could not amend the constitution.

Harutyunyan emphasized the need for public debate on the issue and praised the activities of opposition deputies, while warning that continued parliamentary deadlock would undermine the legitimacy of the legislature.
