Debbie McWilliams says Elordi, Turner and Dickinson unfit to be next James Bond

Debbie McWilliams, the former casting director who spent four decades selecting James Bond actors—including Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig—has ruled out the three actors most frequently mentioned as possible successors: Jacob Elordi, Callum Turner and Harris Dickinson. In an interview with The Independent she said, “I don’t want to see any of them as James Bond because we now know so much about them… It is absolutely essential that Bond retains a total enigma.”

McWilliams explained that the audience should learn as little as possible about the actor’s personal life, stressing that the character must appear capable of “licence to kill” and remain a mystery. She added that Bond should stay male, as written by Ian Fleming.

The search for the new 007 now falls to Amazon MGM Studios, with casting led by Nina Gold, direction by Denis Villeneuve, a screenplay by Steven Knight and producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman. Auditions are scheduled for later in the year, and the studio has indicated that the shortlist will likely focus on lesser‑known talent rather than the high‑profile names currently circulating in the media.
