Former Cheongju councilman Choi Young‑joong faces police investigation over child sex exploitation
Former Cheongju city council member Choi Young‑joong was summoned to the Cheongju police station for a second interrogation, following an earlier inquiry in May. Police are probing accusations that he engaged in sexual activity with a middle‑school girl, demanded nude photographs, and offered additional payment for the girl to bring friends or relatives. Investigators also allege he arranged sexual encounters in cars and motels and exchanged explicit messages.
During the roughly 15‑hour questioning, authorities focused on whether Choi had knowingly exploited a minor, the extent of any additional victims, and whether an arrest warrant would be sought. Choi denied knowledge that the victim was underage and declined to comment further. Police said they will review the evidence before deciding on further legal action.
