Imran Khan: Cricket legends urge Pakistan PM to ensure medical care

Twenty-one former international cricket captains, including legends such as Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, and Greg Chappell, have written a letter to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appealing for the humane treatment and proper medical care of imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The captains' primary demands include allowing a Supreme Court-ordered medical board—to include Khan's personal physicians and his sister, Dr. Uzma Khan—to conduct a full and independent health assessment. They specifically noted concerns regarding Khan's reported loss of vision in his right eye. Additionally, they requested that weekly family visits be restored without administrative delays and that any recommended medical treatments be provided immediately.

The appeal follows a dispute over Khan's recent medical transfer. While the Supreme Court ordered his transfer from Adiala Jail to the private Shifa International Hospital, authorities instead moved him to the state-run Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), citing security concerns. Following a brief examination at PIMS, where doctors declared him medically fit, Khan was returned to prison. This move prompted the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party to file a contempt of court petition, alleging the government failed to comply with the court's specific directives.
