Former GIIF officials granted extension in $2m SkyTrain trial

The Accra High Court has granted former Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) officials Solomon Asamoah and Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi a third extension to file witness statements in a $2 million trial. Justice Audrey Kocuvie-Tay directed the former CEO and former Board Chairman to submit their statements by September 23, 2026.

The case involves allegations of conspiracy to cause a $2 million financial loss related to the proposed Accra SkyTrain project, which was never constructed. The prosecution alleges that funds were transferred from GIIF to Africa Investor Holdings Limited, a South African company, without required approvals.

The extension follows legal maneuvers by the defense. Asamoah’s counsel cited an application to the Supreme Court invoking its supervisory jurisdiction, while Ameyaw-Akumfi’s counsel sought a stay of proceedings pending an appeal. The prosecution has opposed these delays, arguing that the accused have already been granted sufficient time and that a prima facie case has been established.
