Former Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas and Co-Accused Face Trial After KPK Transfers Hajj Quota Corruption Files

The Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) transferred the investigation files for the alleged 2023‑2024 hajj‑quota corruption case to the public prosecutor on 14 July 2026, marking the end of the investigative stage. Four suspects were named: former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, his former special staff Ishfah Abidal Aziz (known as Gus Alex), PT Makassar Toraja operational director Ismail Adham, and Asrul Azis Taba, head of the Kesthuri association. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said the hand‑over includes the case file, evidence and the detainees, and that the prosecutor now has up to 14 days to draft an indictment for the anti‑corruption court. Potential state losses have been estimated at about Rp 622 billion. Yaqut, who has been detained, briefly transferred to a police hospital for health reasons and then re‑detained, said he is ready for an open trial. The forthcoming proceedings will be public, allowing the facts to be examined before a judge.
