Former Justice Sub-Secretary Andrea Delmastro Testifies on Mafia‑Linked Restaurant Scandal
Andrea Delmastro, ex‑sub‑secretary of Justice and member of Fratelli d’Italia, was questioned by the Antimafia commission about his involvement in the restaurant “Bisteccheria d’Italia” in Rome. He acknowledged joining a company owned by the daughter of convicted mafioso Mauro Caroccia, saying he entered the venture in good faith after visiting the venue as a customer.
Delmastro said he received no anti‑money‑laundering alerts and only learned of Caroccia’s criminal conviction after the fact, prompting his “precipitous” exit from the partnership and his resignation from the government. Prosecutors have asked the Chamber to obtain chat messages between Caroccia and Delmastro as part of the investigation.
