Former Marine arrested at Trump golf club faces mental health evaluation

A Los Angeles judge has suspended criminal proceedings for Jeanine John Taele, a 38-year-old former U.S. Marine, following her arrest at the Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes. Taele was apprehended on August 5 while appearing to take photographs of the golf course.

A search of her vehicle uncovered a loaded 9mm handgun, binoculars, a security badge, and approximately 200 pages of documents. These documents reportedly included the schedules of First Lady Melania Trump and members of the U.S. Secret Service, alongside survivalist writings.

Judge John Lonergan Jr. ordered Taele to be transferred to a mental health court in Hollywood after a pretrial evaluation suggested she may lack the mental capacity to stand trial. Taele, who served in Iraq and Afghanistan between 2008 and 2016, faces charges including possession of a short-barreled shotgun or rifle, possession of a large-capacity ammunition magazine, and carrying a concealed weapon. She remains in custody pending a hearing on September 9.
