Angelynn Mock pleads guilty to murdering mother in Kansas

Angelynn Mock, a 48-year-old former television news anchor, has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder for the fatal stabbing of her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers. The incident occurred on Halloween morning at their shared residence in Wichita, Kansas.

According to investigators and court documents, Mock claimed she acted in self-defense, alleging that Avers was sharpening knives and threatened her. Mock also made statements to authorities suggesting she believed her mother was “the devil.” The case had previously been delayed due to questions regarding Mock’s mental competency; she was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder.

Under the terms of a plea agreement, Mock faces a recommended sentence of life in prison, with the possibility of parole eligibility after 25 years. Her sentencing is scheduled for October 5.
