Angelynn ‘Angie’ Mock, a 48-year-old former television presenter, has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder for the fatal stabbing of her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers (or Ayers), in Wichita, Kansas.

The incident occurred on Halloween morning in 2025. Investigators reported that Mock provided conflicting accounts of the event, at times claiming self-defense against a knife-wielding mother, and at other times stating she killed her mother because she believed her mother was ‘the devil’. Police noted the presence of kitchen knives and a cheese grater near the victim’s body.

Mock, who previously worked as a journalist for Fox 2 in St. Louis, had a case delay due to questions regarding her mental competency following a diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder. Under a plea agreement, she faces a recommended sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole eligibility after 25 years. Sentencing is scheduled for October 5.
