Former Pennsylvania priest arrested for $750,000 theft

Gregory Allen Madeya, a 69-year-old former priest, has been arrested in Florida in connection with the alleged theft of approximately $750,000 from churches, religious organizations, and his own mother.

According to the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office, the alleged thefts date back to 2018. Madeya, who served at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in McKeesport and other parishes within the Eparchy of Saint Josaphat, is accused of misappropriating funds from various parishes, the Knights of Columbus, and church donors.

Investigators also allege that Madeya exploited his mother by taking nearly $250,000 from her investment accounts. Authorities stated that his mother faced evictions from nursing homes due to unpaid bills resulting from these actions. The charges include theft, fraud, and the financial exploitation of an elderly person.
