Former President Goodluck Jonathan warns of normalised violence in Nigeria

Former President Goodluck Jonathan addressed the 13th Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Abuja at St James Anglican Church in Asokoro on May 16. He warned that killings, insecurity and moral decline have become "the order of the day" in Nigeria and are increasingly being treated as ordinary occurrences. Jonathan said society has lost its sense of humanity and called for urgent moral and national reflection, urging leaders to act with integrity and the Church to serve as the conscience of the nation. He emphasized that restoring moral values and spiritual guidance is essential to halt the spread of violence and restore hope.

The former president highlighted the role of modern technology in glorifying negative behaviours and stressed that without a renewed focus on values, the country risks further erosion of human life and community cohesion.
