Formigine launches citywide larvicide campaign against mosquitoes

The municipality of Formigine, Italy, began a citywide prevention campaign to curb the spread of tiger mosquito, common mosquito and sandfly. Larvicide treatments are being applied to all catch‑basins, grates and manholes on streets and public areas, with an interactive map online so residents can track progress.

The town is providing free larvicide to households for collection at the public relations office, and urges citizens to keep drains clear, remove standing water, cover containers and maintain ornamental ponds. Adulticide sprays are reserved for emergencies because of their environmental impact on beneficial insects such as bees.

The effort follows regional health guidance that prioritises larval control as the most sustainable method to reduce vector‑borne disease risk.
