Formula 1 2027 technical changes to impact car aerodynamics

New technical regulations approved by the FIA for the 2027 Formula 1 season are expected to significantly impact car design and performance. A key change involves reducing the dimensions of the floor's front section by approximately 30 cm.

This modification is anticipated to allow cars to run lower at the front, potentially reintroducing the ‘rake’ concept—a design characterized by a positive inclination of the car. This aerodynamic approach was famously utilized by Adrian Newey during his successful era with Red Bull Racing.

Analysts suggest these changes may disrupt current development cycles, as many teams had planned to recycle existing chassis designs to manage budget constraints. The shift in power distribution to a 58/42 thermal-to-electric ratio will also coincide with these aerodynamic adjustments.
