Formula 1 announces 2027 aerodynamic regulation changes

Formula 1 has approved new aerodynamic regulations for the 2027 season aimed at reducing downforce and drag to lower energy consumption. These changes complement upcoming power unit updates and focus heavily on the car's floor and rear wing.

Simone Resta, Technical Deputy Director at Mercedes, noted that the modifications involve a series of adjustments to rectify current trends. Key changes include a ban on the proliferation of profiles on the rear wing, as well as limitations or removals of elements near the exhaust exits and the rear impact structure.

The regulations also target the car's floor, specifically shortening the central portion near the T-tray area and reducing the number of elements in the floor's entry section. Additionally, the volume of the rear wing will be further reduced. These measures represent an effort by the Federation to contain aerodynamic load as teams continue to seek ways to increase it through development.
